Missionaries to Japan Jeff & Lori Loomis
 |
I came to know these folks about two years ago, at that time they were temproary missionaries. They came back stste side for additional training and have returned as "Missionaries" to Japan.
Please keep them in your prayers and I will post messages from them here.
Dear Praying Friends,
Thank you for praying for those attending the homeschooling conference in the Philippines. Just about everyone who attended has made it home, safe and sound, and the remaining few should be in the air as I type this. Our personnel working in the Philippines are also safe. God is good to watch over and protect his children. Friday night and Saturday we were in contact with several of the dads, all of whom reported that their families seemed to be handling everything okay. God promises that his grace and provision are always sufficient, and He doesn’t lie. He is so far above the chaos, yet never closer than in a trial. We are thankful to serve a God who is never surprised, and never caught unaware.
Jeff and I continue to plug away at Nihongo (Japanese language). We’re still enjoying our teachers and the learning is interesting. After living in this country for over five years (Jeff) and three years (me), it’s freeing to finally grasp more of the language. Being able to communicate is something we took for granted while living in America! Every word of Nihongo that we learn opens the door to Japanese culture just a little more. We’re like Kindergarten students – we’ve got so much to learn, we can’t help but absorb it. Actually, I wish I could speak as fluently as a five-year old! We’ve got miles to go before then.
Please pray for us as we study. That is our primary responsibility. Pray that we would be diligent and disciplined. Pray that we would grasp the grammatical rules. Pray that we would absorb new vocab quickly. Pray that we would have the courage to practice what we’re learning in the real world, even if we aren’t quite sure we’re getting it perfect.
Pray for us as we keep our eyes on the goal – sharing Jesus in Nihongo. That is what we want more than anything. We have come to deeply love and value our neighbors. They have so welcomed us into the community. Our hearts break for their salvation. We can talk about the weather, about our kids, but not the important stuff. We don’t have the vocab yet to share Christ in Nihongo. We can share bits and pieces about our life and what Christ means to us, and we can use bilingual tracts or other resources, so that’s a start. But pray that when we’re having a tough Nihongo day, or don’t feel like studying, we’ll remember the goal and put our hearts into it.
We’ll write later this week and give details on what’s going on. But now I’ve got kanji to study! Check our website for more requests. Our neighbors know about our website, so if the online prayer requests seem vague, it’s on purpose. We’re so thankful for your prayers and know that God hears them. Remember to pray for the Japanese every time you see a Starbucks or have a cup of coffee.
Love from Japan,
Lori, Jeff & Kade
